The Center for Biotechnology provides access to core research facilities for:

  • Genomics
    • DNA sequencing and DNA microarray services
    • UVP EPI Chemi II Darkroom
    • BioRad Personal Molecular Imager FX
  • Structural Biology
    • SGI Octane graphics workstations
    • Rigaku - Molecular Structure Corporation (MSC) X-ray generator equipped with R-AXIS IV++ imaging plate detector
  • Flow Spectrometry
    • Flow cytometers that evaluate cells at an extremely rapid rate (e.g. up to 20,000 events per second)
    • B-D FACSCalibur dual-laser cytometer capable of four color, 8 parameter analysis operating under CellQuest
    • B-D FACScan single-laser cytomer capable of 3 color, 6 parameter analysis operating under CellQuest
    • B-D FACSVantage SE three-laser, high speed cell sorter capable of 5 color, 8 parameter analysis, operating under CellQuest
  • Mass Spectrometry
    • Four mass spectrometers
    • Seven instruments available for analysis: electron ionization (EI), chemical ionization (CI), fast atom bombardment (FAB), electrospray ionization (ESI) and matrix-assisted laser desorption (MALDI).  Also, multiple MS experiments (MSn) for sequencing are also available.
  • Plant Transformation
    • Experts in the delivery of genetic constructs into model plant systems and two target crops, wheat and soybean. Also provides R0 plants or R1 seed derived from the primary transformants
